The Angelina College Roadrunner women's soccer team found itself locked in a real defensive battle in the conference opener against Blinn College. It took a fortuitous bounce to help turn the game in AC's favor.
The Roadrunner women got the only goal of their match on a deflection in a 1-0 win over the Lady Bucs.
AC’s Bailey Bowers’ game winner occurred when, in the 81st minute she outraced a Blinn defender for possession of the ball. Bowers unleashed a kick blocked by the Buc keeper, but the ball rebounded straight to Bowers, who chested the ball across the net to for the match’s only goal.
Keeper Eva Phillips and a strong back-line presence including Savannah Keziah, Morgan Winthrop, Bailey Bowers and Cassidy Arendse helped keep Blinn off the scoreboard the entire match.
The Roadrunner women will host Northeast Community College (Nebraska) on Sunday. The match kicks off at 3 p.m.
