AC Basketball Teams Open Conference Tournament Wednesday, Thursday
By GARY STALLARD
A seven-game winning streak to close out the regular season makes the Angelina College Roadrunners the hottest team entering this weeks’ Region XIV conference tournament.
The Lady Roadrunners finished off the season with a five-game winning streak and a No. 14 national ranking.
Not one of those factors matters now.
Everybody’s record is 0-0.
The conference tournament tipped off at Centenary College in Shreveport on Tuesday. The Roadrunners, having earned a first-round bye as the South Zone’s No. 2 seed, won’t play until Thursday at 3 p.m. against the Panola College Ponies, who beat Coastal Bend College 70-66 in Tuesday’s opening round. The ‘Runners lost an 83-81 heartbreaker to the Ponies on Jan. 9 in the two teams’ lone meeting of the year. A Thursday win will place the Roadrunners in the men’s semifinals at 6 p.m.
The Lady Roadrunners will face Bossier Parish Community College at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. AC swept the season series in convincing fashion, winning 85-44 on Jan. 12 and 93-52 on Feb. 16. A win on Wednesday will pit the Lady ‘Runners against the winner of the Trinity Valley Community College/Blinn College game. That women’s semifinal matchup is set for 3 p.m. on Friday.
All games take place at the Golden Dome on the campus of Centenary College of Shreveport. Live streaming will be available at angelinaathletics.com and at https://mediasite.bpcc.edu/mediasite/showcase.
